Building an International-Class Marathon

and Expo in Canada's #1 Marketplace!

The 2009 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon & Expo were unqualified successes. We had a record number of participants, with all events being oversubscribed, more international runners than ever (including large groups from USA,UK and Mexico/Latin America) who added greatly to the atmosphere at the show in particular. With a world-class Canadian all comers record winning time and course record of 2:08:32 (the second time on this course), the great new finish in Nathan Philips Square, over $2,500,000 raised for more than 90 local charities, another record, it can only be described as a great race getting greater. In the last 4 years, the number of participants STWM has grown by nearly 400% from 5,866 runners to over 19000.

STWM has rapidly become one of the hottest running properties in North America, and the Expo has grown with it to become Eastern Canada's top running consumer show. Four years ago, the show was 8,500 feet2. 2009 is was 68,000 feet2. After a successful move in 2009 the show will return this year to the Direct Energy Center where we can build on last years success.

Scotiabank's commitment to their stated aim of Doubling The Number Of Participants by the end of their current contract has been a great success. They have achieved this in numerous ways not least of which is a region wide branch promotion. This means at least an extra 2500 runners a year until 2010 (they exceeded the third years target of 17500 and will continue the race expansion as planned through 2010), as we write, entries in the 2010 events are 60% ahead of last year and the cap of 23,000 looks sure to be reached. The visitor numbers at the show will be a minimum of 40,000. This is great news for exhibitors as every runner visiting the show represents a potential life long customer.

The prize purse in 2010 will ensure a field capable of a sub 2:10 winning time and again the race director is looking for a third new Canadian record. With many other stories to tell the STWM will make its presence felt on the world stage and enhance it reputation as a major event on the running calendar.

The Place to be in 2010...

Throughout the STWM Weekend, there is an atmosphere of joy, celebration and success - Starting at the  2-Day Running & Fitness Expo to the bands on the course every 2 km on race morning.

We are proud to announce that on September 24th & 25th 2010, the Runners' Expo will return to the Direct Energy Center. The show will be bigger and better, evidenced by the unprecedented number of booth space applications already submitted!

Due to the growth of the Expo in 2009, attendance went beyond race participants and began attracting general fitness enthusiasts as well and we expect that trend to continue! The expo is generally the first place the participants come with their family and friends to pick up their race number and visit all of the great exhibits! In 2009, we had an estimated 32,000 visitors, and that total is projected to grow to at least 40,000 in 2010.

We will also expand the STWM Event Supplement in Get Out There Magazine to further promote the expo and will be expanding our successful "Speakers Series" at the Expo, with the likes of Joan Benoit Samuelson, Olympic Champion and Waterfront Winner in 1990 (when it was just a Half Marathon) and John "The Penguin" Bingham - Runner's World columnist and guru of the current running boom.

In short, this is an exceptional opportunity to meet your target consumers in an energy charged environment, where customers are truly receptive to your products and services...

With no other event-led expo in the Toronto marketplace (in excess of 7 million people), the event and expo offers an excellent opportunity to access this large marketplace.
